The_Dakota was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976 on December 8. Ironically, 4 years later to the day, that landmark started to take on a new significance since 1980. Construction of The Dakota started on October 25, 1880 & just over a 100 years later, John_Lennon was killed there.
